About half of the registered students at Yonsei University College of Medicine, which closes its re-enrollment application on the 21st, have applied for their return.

The registered student body at Yonsei University College of Medicine is estimated to be around 120 per class, with approximately 600 students expected after excluding those who have enlisted. Therefore, it can be estimated that about 300 students have already expressed their intention to return.

According to Yonsei University, as of around 7 p.m. the previous day, about half of the medical students had applied for their return. Therefore, as of the current deadline, it is possible that more than half of the students have applied to return.

Yonsei University posted an urgent notice on its website that afternoon, stating, "There will be no change in our position to expel students on March 28 if they do not apply for re-enrollment by the 21st."

The return scale of Korea University medical students has also been reported to be similar, with about half of the registered students returning. However, the registration and re-enrollment application scale for medical students from Korea University, Kyungpook National University, Yonsei University's Future Campus, and CHA University College of Medicine has not been disclosed.

Previously, each university and the Ministry of Education decided to keep the scale of returnees confidential. This is to minimize the impact on other universities and to prevent potential backlash against returnees if the return isn’t large-scale.

Korea University initially set the registration deadline for 4 p.m. that day but extended it to 11:59 p.m. They notified students of the deadline extension via text message.

At Korea University, students who have completed their registration must submit their re-enrollment applications by the 26th. Even if registered, failure to submit the re-enrollment application may result in expulsion according to the school's regulations.

Earlier, Park Sung-beom, dean of Korea University College of Medicine, noted on the 11th that "this year, the academic schedule, number of classes, attendance, and grading for all grades will be conducted in accordance with school regulations as usual."

Korea University's regulations stipulate that students who do not re-enroll within the registration period despite the reason for their leave having ended, or those who fail to register within the specified period each semester, will face expulsion.

However, it has been reported that Korea University will continue internal discussions regarding whether to expel students who have not registered, in accordance with school rules.

Kyungpook National University also kept its related computer network open until 11:59 p.m. to receive applications for return.

Kyungpook National University reportedly held an urgent meeting that morning aimed at encouraging students to return.

Heo Yeong-woo, president of Kyungpook National University, informed students in a letter sent on the 13th that "those whose leave of absence ended at the end of the second semester last year (Feb. 28, 2025) must return by the 21st," and added, "If no separate leave of absence is applied for due to illness, childcare, or military service, it will be processed as expulsion according to school regulations."
