Shin Hak-chul, vice chairman of LG CHEM, has been elected as the new chairman of The National Academy of Engineering of Korea.
The National Academy of Engineering of Korea announced that at the first extraordinary board meeting of 2025, held on the morning of the 21st at the Westin Chosun Hotel, the new vice chairman was elected as chairman.
Chairman Shin has served for over 30 years at the global corporation 3M, significantly contributing to its growth and having held the position of senior vice president. Since 2019, he has been serving as vice chairman and CEO of LG CHEM, upgrading the company's R&D and global capabilities.
Chairman Shin noted, “On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the academy's founding, I will propose a longer-term direction for the National Academy of Engineering.” He added, “To achieve this, I will redefine the composition, role, and governance of the academy's board, ensuring that the board contributes more actively to the academy's development.”
Chairman Shin's term is two years until March 2027.
