Kwon Seok-yoon, the new director of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, emphasized, "We have reached a point where we need to redefine our role in the rapidly changing global bio environment and achieve even more challenging innovations."
During the inauguration ceremony held at the main building of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology in Daejeon on the 17th, Kwon said, "Our innovation and growth will serve as the cornerstone for strengthening the nation's bio capabilities and raising South Korea's bio status on the global stage," and added, "I hope to embark on this important journey with you and lead this process of change."
He also presented the 'TOP' slogan as a key strategy for the organization. This reflects his determination to achieve innovation and growth by strengthening open innovation, enhancing research excellence, and reinforcing sustainable management systems.
Kwon graduated from the Department of Botany at Seoul National University and obtained a master's degree in botany and a Ph.D. in biology from the same university. He has held various key positions at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, including vice president, head of the Department of Convergence Bio-Materials Research, head of the Technology Commercialization Center, and head of the Plant System Engineering Research Center.
He also served as a planning committee member for the 3rd Basic Plan for Biotechnology Promotion and is currently active in various external activities in the field of biotechnology, including being a director of the Korean Society for Molecular and Cell Biology, vice president of the Korean Bioeconomics Association, and vice president of the Korean Society of Plant Biology.
Kwon was appointed as the 15th director of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology at the 225th special board meeting of the National Research Council of Science and Technology held on the 13th. The term is for three years starting from the 14th.
