■ The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology announced on the 7th that it held the opening ceremony of the "Chemical Materials and Components Win-Win Technology Cooperation Center." The Chemical Materials and Components Win-Win Technology Cooperation Center is a technology innovation platform aimed at strengthening the collaboration system between the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology and demand and supply corporations. It consists of a win-win research space, separated office space, scale-up laboratories, meeting rooms, and convenience facilities. Previously, the participation of three consortia's corporations has already been confirmed, and the move-in process is currently underway. The center will provide facilities such as a corporate promotion hall and communication and interaction space to assist in collaboration and networking among corporations, along with various support to facilitate technology transfer and commercialization.
■ The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 7th that it co-hosted the 8th Korea-EU Joint Committee on Science and Technology with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. This meeting was held to reflect South Korea's participation as an associated country in Horizon Europe in 2025 and was tied to the Korea-EU Research Innovation Day held the previous day. During the meeting, South Korea shared the status of national strategic technologies and R&D investments, including AI, quantum technology, and advanced biotechnology, while the EU introduced directions for international cooperation in research innovation. Additionally, the meeting reviewed plans for expanding participation in Horizon Europe and cooperation in key areas such as health and carbon neutrality technologies, as well as collaboration with the European Research Council (ERC), Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), and preparations for the next framework program (FP10).
■ The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission announced that Chairperson Choi Won-ho visited the National Radiation Emergency Medical Center of the Korea Atomic Energy Medical Institute on the 7th. The National Radiation Emergency Medical Center is responsible for providing rapid and specialized emergency medical care for patients exposed to radiation in the event of a radiation disaster, and it supports 31 designated primary and secondary radiation emergency medical institutions designated by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission. During the visit, Chairperson Choi inspected emergency medical facilities, including decontamination and treatment rooms for removing radioactive contaminants from radiation-exposed patients, as well as facilities for assessing radiation exposure doses to determine treatment directions.
■ The Korean Intellectual Property Office announced on the 6th (local time) that in a meeting between the head agencies of South Korea and Spain held in Madrid, both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of intellectual property for small and medium-sized enterprises. During this meeting, both nations shared policy experiences such as the utilization of patent big data and IP finance for small and medium enterprises, and discussed cooperation in developing Spanish-language global intellectual property learning content "IP Panorama 2.0." They plan to revise the existing comprehensive cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) to reflect these discussions and expand cooperation areas, including support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
