■The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced on the 28th that it held the opening ceremony for the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) Relativistic Laser Science Research Group. The ceremony was attended by GIST President Lim Ki-cheol, IBS Director General Noh Do-young, Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) Director Kang Heung-sik, and Korea Photonics Technology Institute Director Shin Yong-jin. The IBS Relativistic Laser Science Research Group plans to implement extreme physical phenomena, such as strong field quantum electrodynamics, by developing and utilizing world-class laser technology.
■The Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine announced the results of the '2023 Survey on the Status of the Korean Medicine Industry,' which details the domestic Korean medicine industry. The institute conducts the survey biennially and publishes the results. While the number of enterprises in the Korean medicine sector decreased compared to two years ago, revenue and employment figures increased. ■The Korea Aerospace Administration and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced on the 28th that they held the '1st Civil-Military Space Development Project Director General Meeting.' The two agencies shared plans for space launch vehicles and launch infrastructure initiatives and agreed to continue cooperation. They discussed plans for establishing a defense space launch facility promoted by the Defense Science Research Institute and the direction for expanding national launch infrastructure through civil-military collaboration.
■The National Gwacheon Science Museum announced the opening of a new exhibition titled 'The Foundation of Modern Electronic Civilization: Semiconductors.' This exhibition covers a wide range of topics in the semiconductor field, from the concept of semiconductors to manufacturing processes and applications. Displayed items include large-diameter wafers and photomasks donated by the Korea Nano Technology Institute, as well as semiconductor products from Telechips and Rebellion. The exhibition will officially open on March 5, and a guided program will start on March 18.
