Joo Soyoun, a doctor from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has been appointed as the deputy editor for the Publishing Development Team of the international journal Advanced Materials.
Dr. Joo was appointed as deputy editor of the international journal in February this year, simultaneously with her graduation from the doctoral program. KAIST explains that such cases are hard to find in the country.
Advanced Materials is a top-tier journal in the field of materials science and engineering published by the German publisher Wiley-VCH. It covers advanced materials research, including NANO materials, electronic materials, and biomaterials. The role of a deputy editor goes beyond simply reviewing papers; it plays a critical role in communicating with researchers worldwide and coordinating academic trends.
Dr. Joo completed her undergraduate program at KAIST and finished the integrated master's and doctoral program in four years. She is researching data-driven material analysis techniques and developing material characterization and analysis technologies using Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) technology, computer vision, and machine learning.
Dr. Joo Soyoun expressed her aspiration, saying, "I want to become a deputy editor who can effectively share research results by actively communicating with researchers while reflecting global academic trends through the various research experiences I have gained at KAIST and contribute to the journal's development."
Professor Hong Seung-beom noted, "I believe that Dr. Joo's demonstrated international sensibility and passion for research will significantly contribute to scientific and technological innovation through her communication not only with researchers in academia but also with the public through this deputy editor role."
