Actor Shin Min-a donated 1 billion won to the Hanlim Burn Foundation, a social welfare organization, over 10 years to help burn patients.
The Hanlim Burn Foundation stated on the 27th that it has received 100 million won annually from actor Shin Min-a since 2015, and that the cumulative donation reached 1 billion won as of the 7th. Through this support, 201 burn patients have received treatment.
In addition to the donations, Shin Min-a delivers handwritten letters and gifts to pediatric burn patients hospitalized at Hanlim University Han River Sacred Heart Hospital every Christmas and year-end. This year, on the 24th, just before the Lunar New Year, she offered warm comfort to the pediatric burn patients. In her first donation in 2015, she personally visited the Hanlim Burn Foundation and engaged in art activities with the pediatric burn patients to encourage them.
The Hanlim Burn Foundation was established in May 2008 to assist the physical and mental recovery of burn patients and their families. It supports burn patients through various programs, including medical expense assistance, rehabilitation therapy, psychological counseling, and specialized trauma treatment programs for firefighters.
In line with Shin Min-a's intention for her donations, the Hanlim Burn Foundation provides financial support for children, adolescents, and low-income patients with severe burns who face significant treatment costs. The donated funds will likewise be allocated to medical expenses for pediatric burn patients and female burn patients, as well as to caregiving costs for low-income burn patients.
Thanks to Shin Min-a's donations, a child who suffered severe burns from hot ramen soup at the age of 5 has undergone multiple skin grafts and reconstructive surgeries, and a woman in her 40s who suffered severe burns from a gas explosion at a restaurant in 2019 has regained hope despite struggling to afford treatment.
Actor Shin Min-a said, "Burn patients require multiple surgeries and it takes a long time for their skin tissue to recover, so continuous support is critically needed," adding, "If many people take an interest, it would be a great strength."
Heo Jun, chairman of the Hanlim Burn Foundation, said, "The donation by supporter Shin Min-a plays a precious role beyond mere financial support, instilling hope in burn patients and encouraging them not to give up on their treatment," and added, "With the donated funds, we will do our utmost to ensure that burn patients can safely receive treatment and regain their smiles."
