The National Gwacheon Science Museum has completed the renovation of the natural history exhibition 'The Hall of Evolution' and announced it will reopen on the 28th. The newly organized natural history exhibit reflects the latest research findings in the field of paleontology, summarizing the history of the Earth within 24 hours. Scotty, which was exhibited during the 'World's Largest Tyrannosaurus Exhibition' last summer, will now be established as a permanent display in the dinosaur hill through this reopening. The revamped exhibit will also feature eight new fossil specimens, including Coelophysis and Fighting Dinosaur, as well as five skeletal models.
The '2025 Korean Chemistry Olympiad Winter School,' hosted by the Department of Chemistry at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, has concluded. This winter school saw the participation of 52 high school seniors and juniors from across the country. The 2025 winter school was conducted in two phases. The first phase consisted of online chemistry theory lectures provided for first-year high school students over five days from the 6th to the 10th. Following that, all the participating students stayed on the UNIST campus from the 12th to the 18th for six days, learning and experimenting in various fields, including physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry.
The Korean Women in Science and Technology (WISET) announced on the 23rd that it is recruiting participants and institutions for its 'Support Project for Utilizing Alternative Workforce in the R&D Field of Science and Technology' in the first half of the year. This program aims to reduce workforce gaps due to maternity and child-rearing, and to prevent career interruptions for researchers by subsidizing the labor costs of alternative personnel. WISET has expanded the recruitment process from two times a year to four times a year.
The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission reported that Chairperson Choi Won-ho inspected the site related to the abnormal discharge of liquid waste treatment systems at the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant on the 23rd. Chairperson Choi confirmed key facilities, including liquid radioactive waste storage tanks and discharge isolation valves, related to the abnormal discharge incident that occurred at Unit 2 of Wolseong on the 12th. He also held a meeting with the Wolseong Nuclear Safety Council and listened to the opinions of local residents regarding nuclear safety.
