The Korea Polar Research Institute announced it will operate a pop-up store "Antarctic Exploration Team" at the Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo location for a month starting from the 17th. The pop-up store features experiential content tailored to the attention span of children from preschool age to elementary school students. It introduces the importance of Antarctica and the role of glaciers by following the processes of glacier formation and disappearance. Some visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the Korea Polar Research Institute headquarters.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced it agreed on the 6th (local time) to establish a cooperative system for semiconductor technology research with the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The two institutions have been collaborating on the production of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit silicon detectors since 2023. This agreement paves the way for the development of new semiconductor technology for detecting high-energy particles occurring in space environments.
The National Gwacheon Science Museum announced it will hold its first special observation event of the year on the 25th starting at 6:30 p.m. This special observation will allow participants to witness the phenomenon of "planetary alignment," where six planets in the solar system will appear lined up. Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will rise simultaneously in a spectacular display. The special observation is open to anyone who wants to participate on-site. The Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Institute of Environmental Research to advance national water environment management policies. The two institutions will collaborate to overcome water environment crises resulting from climate change. They will jointly utilize research facilities for the management of groundwater and rivers and engage in activities related to international and national standards in the flow and groundwater fields. The two organizations will form a working-level council to effectively promote areas of cooperation and mutually discuss specific tasks.
