The University of Science and Technology (UST) announced on the 6th that it will conduct the '2025 Winter UST Research Internship' for five weeks until February 14, allowing science and engineering students to experience the research sites of government-funded research institutes. The UST Research Internship is a program that provides science and engineering students with an opportunity for career development as prospective scientists by receiving one-on-one research guidance from professors working as researchers at national research institutes. This internship received applications from a total of 1,510 students from 154 universities nationwide, with 234 selected, resulting in a competition rate of 6.2:1.
The Korea Electric Research Institute (KERI) announced six photos that capture the hidden values of research and development sites. KERI received a total of 28 photo submissions through its own competition last year and selected one team for the grand prize, two teams for excellence, and three teams for outstanding work through a staff preference vote and a judging committee. The prestigious grand prize was awarded to the 'High Voltage Pulse Power Based Plasma' from the Electric Physics Research Center. KERI President Kim Nam-kyun noted, "We initiated the photography awards last year to recognize external usability, institutional representation, completeness, and artistry, and I believe one can sense the hidden values of the research sites striving for 'big technology' development."
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced that it will participate in CES 2025, the world's largest ICT exhibition, in collaboration with Daejeon Metropolitan City to explore overseas expansion opportunities for its start-up corporations and Research Institute corporations and to support global growth. At CES 2025, ETRI will set up five booths within an integrated exhibition hall prepared by Daejeon Metropolitan City, participating alongside companies based in Daejeon. The participating corporations include DigitalSent, QuantumEye, TutorsLabs, FarmConnect, and Edint, totaling five companies. Among them, start-up corporation TutorsLabs and Research Institute corporation FarmConnect have been selected for the CES Innovation Awards.
TwinWiz, a Research Institute corporation from the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), has successfully developed liquid antimicrobial, antiviral, and antifungal materials and turned them into products. The material is colorless and transparent, allowing for the addition of antimicrobial, antiviral, and antifungal functions without altering the product color, appearance, or properties. It has been verified as safe and functional, having been tested negative for harmful substances and high-risk substances. CEO Kim Chang-soo of TwinWiz stated, "We recently introduced a mass production system through transferring our factory and have started supplying global companies like Toray Advanced Materials and Joongkwang Paint."
