Lee Eun-jeong, a science reporter at Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), has been elected as the 30th president of the Korean Science Journalists Association.
The election management committee of the Korean Science Journalists Association announced on the 27th that candidate Lee Eun-jeong received the most votes in the mobile electronic voting conducted from the 26th to 27th, confirming her election. Her term will last for two years starting from January 1, 2025.
The new president graduated from the Department of Microbiology at Seoul National University, earned a master's degree in microbiology from the same graduate school, and received a doctoral degree from Seoul National University School of Medicine. After working at Kyunghyang Shinmun, she joined KBS as a science reporter in 2007 and has served in that position ever since. She has held roles such as the head of the News Production Division and Director General of Digital News at KBS. She is also active as the chair of the Science Communication Committee of the Korean Federation of Women's Science and Technology Associations, an advisory member of the Policy Advisory Committee of the National Research Foundation of Korea, and a visiting professor in the Department of Life Sciences at Seoul National University.
The new president stated, "I believe that science journalism should serve as a foundation for building a better society, and I will support many juniors to grow as science journalists and specialists."
