Kim Jin-han, the principal researcher at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, has been elected as the 14th president of the Aerospace System Engineering Society.

The Aerospace System Engineering Society announced on the 24th that it has elected Kim as the next president. The term begins on January 1st of next year and lasts for one year.

Kim, the new president, graduated from Korea Aerospace University and received his master’s degree in aerospace engineering and his doctorate in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University in the United States. He later joined the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, where he has been responsible for the development of aircraft engines and launch vehicle engines. He also led the development of the Korean launch vehicle (Nuri) engine as the head of the launch vehicle engine development division.

He received the Science and Technology Medal of Honor in 2013 for his contributions to the successful development of an independent launch vehicle engine. In 2018, he was awarded the Contribution Medal from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and currently serves as an advisory member of the Defense Intelligence Command and a policy advisory member of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

Kim noted, "In line with new changes such as the establishment of the Aerospace Administration, the society will actively cooperate with the national aerospace projects," and added, "We will strive to become the center of technological exchange beyond just academic activities."
