The entire South Korean delegation won medals at the 21st International Junior Science Olympiad.
From Dec. 2 to Dec. 12, 304 students from 51 countries participated in the competition held in Bucharest, Romania. The South Korean delegation included Kim Do-yoon (Sungmoon Middle School, 2nd year), Park Se-jin (Naejeong Middle School, 2nd year), Shin Jae-ho (Yeoksam Middle School, 2nd year), Oh Si-hoon (Sangmyung Middle School, 3rd year), and Jo Min-seo (Dodam Middle School, 3rd year), who received gold medals, while Park Geon-woo (Incheon Sariwool Middle School, 3rd year) won a silver medal.
In particular, Park Se-jin received a special award for scoring full marks in the theoretical, depth theory, and experimental problems in the chemistry field.
The 21st International Junior Science Olympiad consisted of 30 theoretical questions (30 points), 10 depth theory questions (30 points), and 10 experimental questions (40 points), totaling 100 points, and each section lasted 3 hours.
Jeon Yeong-seok (Seoul National University of Education), the Director General of the International Science Gifted Academy, noted, "The students were able to achieve good results by calmly approaching the exam as they had prepared. They actively interacted with future scientists from various countries and left a very good impression by behaving politely and in an orderly manner."
