Minister Yoo of the Ministry of Science and ICT urged officials to "push forward with core tasks without wavering, even in difficult situations, to ensure that the growth engine does not stop."
On the morning of the 16th, Minister Yoo held an expanded executive meeting and noted, "As one of the Cabinet members, I feel a heavy responsibility regarding the recent serious situation" and emphasized, "In the face of political instability, reduced domestic demand, and declining international credibility, the public sector must maintain its focus and navigate through this crisis." This gathering of officials was organized by Minister Yoo following the suspension of President Yoon Suk Yeol's duties over the weekend and the assumption of presidential duties by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, as the impeachment crisis came into full swing.
Minister Yoo stated, "The Ministry of Science and ICT is a department that leads the future; science, technology, and digital sectors are the growth engines driving the future." He further urged, "To ensure that the growth engine does not come to a stop, I ask for your unwavering commitment to promote core tasks even in this serious situation, to overcome low growth and stabilize livelihoods."
He added, "Please swiftly and boldly implement policies regarding the acquisition of global leadership in three game-changing technologies, technology commercialization, talent development, and the digital transformation of AI, as well as ensure meticulous execution and management of the Ministry’s budget and research and development budget."
Minister Yoo also emphasized cooperation with relevant ministries to promote digital communication services and cybersecurity, as well as address livelihood issues such as support for small business owners and combating voice phishing, while enhancing communication with the National Assembly for the amendment of key AI laws and securing budgets.
Minister Yoo also established meetings for key policy issues. He stressed, "I will focus more on communication with the field to gain trust from academic and industrial sites."
