Samsung Medical Center announced on Nov. 11 that it would introduce an innovative service allowing patients to obtain copies of their medical records with just one application, available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Previously, it was not possible to issue copies of medical records on weekends or holidays.
The new system enhances the medical record issuance system (Robotic Process Automation, RPA) based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, improving convenience by eliminating time and location constraints. Patients can easily obtain copies of their medical records anytime and anywhere without needing to visit during hospital operating hours. When a patient requests issuance online, the system automatically processes all steps, from identity verification to generating and uploading related documents in PDF format.
To ensure smooth issuance of medical records, the hospital has implemented a feature where the system automatically requests medical staff to complete any unfinished parts of the records. It manages the entire process automatically, including record completion and reissuance.
Lee Poong-ryul, head of the Digital Innovation Promotion Team at Samsung Medical Center (professor of gastroenterology), noted, "This is a representative example of realizing patient-centered digital innovation," and added, "We will continue to pursue digital innovation in healthcare services through advanced technologies."
