Nongshim(004370) said on the 9th it will host the nationwide youth ramen cooking competition "High school chef season 2."
High school chef is a cooking competition program where teenagers interested in cooking present their own creative recipes using Nongshim ramen. Any high school student nationwide or teenagers born between 2008 and 2010 can participate by submitting an application by the 29th of this month.
This year's competition theme, marking the 40th anniversary of Shin Ramyun's launch, is "my own original ramen using Shin Ramyun." Nongshim will select outstanding entries from the recipes submitted for the preliminaries and pick six finalists.
The finalists will face off one-on-one using the recipes they submitted in the preliminaries at the offline finals to be held in Seoul on Oct. 9, and the three winners of each matchup will advance to the championship. The championship theme will be revealed on site.
Offline judging will be conducted by professional chefs and Nongshim R&D officials. After the championship, content featuring participants' recipes will be posted online for voting, and the final ranking will be determined by combining the judges' evaluations with the online vote results. The prize money is 3 million won for the winner, and 2 million won and 1 million won for second and third place, respectively.
A Nongshim official said, "High school chef is a program where teenagers can freely showcase their own ideas and cooking skills," and added, "This year, through a creative cooking competition using Shin Ramyun and mentoring with Nongshim researchers, we hope participants will experience new possibilities for ramen."
