Convenience store chains are rolling out desserts aimed at visiting foreign tourists and people in their 20s and 30s.
The GS25 convenience store run by GS Retail(007070) released Han Jeong-seon yogurt chapssal-tteok on the 3rd in collaboration with the chapssal-tteok brand Han Jeong-seon and dessert maker Loromelo.
Han Jeong-seon is a brand that reinterpreted chapssal-tteok with a modern sensibility and drew attention. Starting on the Seongsu-dong cafe street, it spread by word of mouth on social media and is gaining popularity among foreign tourists.
The new product reinterprets Han Jeong-seon's signature menu as a frozen convenience store dessert. Depending on the level of thawing, it can be enjoyed with textures ranging from gelato-like to the chewy feel of chapssal-tteok.
Seven-Eleven, targeting people in their 20s and 30s, released four types in the popular Japanese chocolate series Tirol Choco Mochi. Tirol Choco Mochi sold out early at 130,000 units in just two months after its launch last year. This year, the volume was roughly tripled and released again.
Tirol is a leading Japanese chocolate brand and is considered a must-buy item among Japan-bound travelers from Korea. Seven-Eleven reintroduced two popular items—injeolmi mochi and choco mochi—and newly added two varieties: shine muscat tart and sweet potato.
