Shinsegae(004170)The department store said on the 2nd that ahead of Chuseok it will introduce special gifts such as craft works by masters of national intangible heritage and overseas travel packages.
Shinsegae Department Store prepared Chuseok gift items through the local content project "Local is Shinsegae" and the premium travel platform "Via Shinsegae."
Local is Shinsegae is running the "Craft Heritage" project in cooperation with the Korea Heritage Service, showcasing 42 works by 10 holders of national intangible heritage. The works will be exhibited through the 23rd at the VIP lounges of Shinsegae Department Store's Gangnam branch and Main Store, and can be purchased at the H.O.S gift shop on basement level 1 of the Main Store.
A signature item is "First-birthday traditional kkotsin" by master shoemaker Hwang Hae-bong. Hwang has continued traditional shoe-making for five generations and was designated a holder of national intangible heritage in 2004. Completing a single pair of kkotsin involves a total of 72 processes.
Also on sale are "White porcelain moon jar" by ceramic craft transmission educator Kim Kyung-sik; "Jeonju taegeuk two-tier cabinet" by somokjang So Byung-jin; "Ottchil Naju tray" by lacquer craft trainee Jeong Gi-hwan; and "Stand lamp – oil painting" by somokjang trainee So Jung-han.
Via Shinsegae prepared travel products under the theme of "a gift for parents." Offerings include a trip to Egypt accompanied by Egyptologist Gwak Min-su and an Africa trip that visits Tanzania's Serengeti National Park and a private island.
It is also introducing an architecture-themed trip to Kagawa Prefecture, Japan. Together with architect Kim Ho-min, travelers will visit Naoshima, Teshima and other Seto Inland Sea areas to tour Tadao Ando's buildings and museums.
