SSG.com and Gmarket said on the 31st they will launch large-scale discount events focused on gift sets, household goods, and electronics ahead of Chuseok. The strategy is to start the events nearly a month before this year's Chuseok to lock in demand early for holiday gifts and grocery shopping.
Gmarket will run its Chuseok promotion "2026 Hangawi Big Sale" from today through on the 22nd of next month. It moved up the start date by about 10 days from last year. It said it began discounts before holiday demand kicks in, considering grocery price burdens from the summer heat wave and recent heavy rains.
This event will offer 2,000 special-price products, about three times more than the previous holiday event, the "Seol Big Sale." The categories have been expanded from daily necessities and kitchenware to digital and home appliances, food, and gift sets. Major brands such as Aekyung, Yuhan-Kimberly, CJ CheilJedang, OTOKI, Dongwon, Jung Kwan Jang, Amorepacific, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Roborock, as well as local specialties, will also be sold.
Three exclusive coupons that can discount up to 200,000 won depending on the product price can be downloaded and used without limit during the event. Broadcasts and Shorts Deals through its live channel "G Live" will be scheduled 1,000 times during the event.
A Gmarket official said, "We prepared the Hangawi Big Sale earlier than before for early-bird holiday shoppers who want to get must-have items at better prices in advance," adding, "We greatly increased various special-price products to ease grocery burdens, so we ask for your interest."
SSG.com will hold "Shopping Express" from on the 1st to the 6th of next month, targeting gift demand centered on living, electronics, and beauty.
It will sell holiday gift items such as the Le Creuset heart mug and tray set and Songwol Towel sets at discounts of up to 50%. Home appliances such as the Sloum mini massager and the Cuckoo food waste processor will be discounted up to 35%.
In beauty, it will sequentially run brand showcases such as Yves Saint Laurent and Diptyque. If you purchase products from Sulwhasoo, Jo Malone London, or Santa Maria Novella, a Chuseok gift-wrapping service will also be provided.
SSG.com is also promoting its "Gift" service, which lets you send products with just a contact number even if you don't know the address. You can send the same gift to multiple people at once or bundle several products to deliver to one person.
During the event, if you purchase products worth at least 10,000 won each from Shinsegae Mall and Shinsegae Department Store Mall, you will receive 10% and 7% discount coupons. An additional 7% discount applies when you pay 70,000 won or more with an event card.
