KT&G said on the 20th it will donate 3 billion won through the Korea Disaster Relief Association to support recovery in the Geoje and Tongyeong areas hit by heavy rains and to aid flood victims.
The donation will be used for recovery in areas damaged by heavy rains, emergency relief for displaced residents, and livelihood support. The funds were sourced from the Sangsang Fund, a social contribution fund created through voluntary participation by KT&G employees.
The Sangsang Fund, launched in 2011 as a social contribution fund, is built by employees voluntarily donating a set amount from their monthly pay, which the company matches in equal amount.
KGC, a KT&G subsidiary, will also provide Jung Kwan Jang red ginseng products worth 1 billion won to residents affected by the heavy rains.
In March last year, KT&G provided donations for recovery from wildfires in the Yeongnam region, and in July of the same year it delivered funds for recovery in areas hit by heavy rains and for relief for displaced residents.
Sim Yeong-a, head of KT&G's ESG Management Office, said, "We will fulfill our social responsibility to help swiftly normalize the affected areas and restore everyday life for flood victims."
