BGF Retail(282330), which operates CU convenience stores, said on the 18th that it provided emergency relief supplies to Geoje in South Gyeongsang Province, where recent torrential rains caused flooding.
During the Liberation Day holiday, more than 950 millimeters of torrential rain fell on Geoje, leading to damage including flooded dwellings and facilities. With road washouts and even landslides, recovery work is expected to take considerable time.
BGF Retail activated "BGF Bridge," a national disaster emergency relief system it operates with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare. The method is to rush supplies stockpiled at the BGF Logistics Jinju distribution center to Geoje City Hall.
The relief supplies were composed of food and beverages—such as cup noodles, chocolate bars, and sports drinks—sufficient for about 1,000 people. The items are to be delivered to affected residents and to personnel conducting recovery and relief operations on the ground. BGF Retail will monitor the damage and consider additional support.
Park Chae-young, BGF Retail's ESG team leader, said, "We provided emergency relief supplies so that residents in Geoje affected by the sudden torrential rain can return to their daily lives as soon as possible," adding, "We will continue to fulfill our social responsibility by leveraging our nationwide logistics infrastructure and store network to quickly deliver assistance to affected areas when disasters occur."
