Maeil Dairies apologized over an accident at its Pyeongtaek plant in which one cleaning worker died and one was injured, and said on the 10th it would support the bereaved family and draw up measures to prevent a recurrence.
Chief Executive Lee In-gi of Maeil Dairies issued an apology in his name the same day, saying, "We extend our deepest condolences and sincere apology to the member who lost a precious life and to the bereaved family."
Lee said, "Maeil Dairies will fully cooperate with all investigative procedures," and promised, "We will prioritize support for the member and the bereaved family affected by this accident, and the company will provide all possible assistance for the swift recovery of the member who is undergoing treatment."
He added, "Based on a thorough understanding of the accident's circumstances and the findings of the relevant authorities, we will reexamine on-site safety management systems and take all necessary measures to ensure such a regrettable incident never happens again."
According to Maeil Dairies, at about 3 p.m. on the previous day, two workers cleaning a condensed milk storage tank at the Pyeongtaek plant were found collapsed and were transported to a hospital. One died and the other received treatment at the hospital.
Maeil Dairies said it halted the process immediately after the accident, and relevant authorities are now investigating the exact cause and circumstances.
