GS Retail(007070) presented a mid- to long-term management goal to achieve 380 billion won in operating profit in 2028. The plan is to raise profitability by boosting competitiveness in core businesses such as convenience stores while selling noncore investment assets and streamlining inefficient stores.
GS Retail disclosed on the 7th its "2026 corporate value enhancement plan." It said it will raise corporate value with a two-track approach of strengthening the inherent profitability of the retail business and improving asset efficiency, while also reinforcing shareholder return policies.
The company aims to lift operating profit in 2028 to 380 billion won, more than 30% higher than last year. To hit the target, it will push growth strategies for the three main businesses—convenience stores, supermarkets and home shopping—and measures to improve profitability.
First, the GS25 convenience store chain will raise store competitiveness by expanding "fresh-enhanced" locations and will strengthen its differentiated private brand (PB) and fresh food lineup. The GS The Fresh supermarket chain will reinforce a store-opening strategy centered on key downtown commercial districts and increase products tailored to each district's characteristics.
For home shopping, it will strengthen exclusive products and raise synergies across channels such as TV, mobile and social media. It will also expand artificial intelligence transformation (AX) and data-driven management companywide. Through this, it plans to enhance operational competitiveness in convenience stores and supermarkets and bolster personalized services in home shopping.
It will also pursue asset efficiency. It will sell noncore investment stocks and funds and streamline inefficient stores, operating real estate and investment assets with a focus on improving return on equity (ROE). Cash generated through asset efficiency will be used to enhance long-term corporate value after weighing new investments against shareholder returns.
It will also strengthen communication with the market. It plans to appoint a director in charge of shareholder communications and continuously review and share the execution and results of the corporate value enhancement plan.
