Baemin operator Woowa Brothers said it will deploy the new Dilli delivery robot model "Dilli X3-R 1.4" to Baemin B Mart's robot delivery sites starting on the 3rd.
The new model obtained an operational safety certification for the new model last month from the Korea Institute For Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA).
Since Feb. last year, Baemin has been piloting a robot delivery service centered on the Baemin B Mart Gangnam Nonhyeon branch. When consumers choose robot delivery while using B Mart and meet the minimum order amount, the robot delivers to the first floor of the recipient's building.
More than 99% of the total driving distance has been covered by robot Autonomous Driving without human intervention, and Baemin said the service operated stably during the rainy season in Jul., keeping average delivery times around 25 minutes.
According to Baemin, as of Jun., actual order volume increased by about 40% from a month earlier and rose 240% from the same period last year, when the pilot began.
The new model uses expanded polypropylene (EPP), a more recyclable material than the plastic used in the previous model. EPP is recyclable, lightweight, resistant to heat and impact, and highly durable.
Its weight is about 8% lower than the previous model, increasing top speed and extending range. Under the outdoor mobile robot operational safety certification standards in the Intelligent Robot Act, the previous model exceeded 100 kg and was limited to 10 km/h, while the new model is 100 kg or less and can reach up to 15 km/h.
It also adds and reinforces the CPU, cameras, and sensors to improve perception and processing speed. This gives it further improved Autonomous Driving performance. In particular, a rear camera was added to enhance vehicle recognition.
Baemin will use the new model to expand its robot delivery service. It currently delivers orders within 2 km and plans to widen the range. Baemin said it aims to roll out the robot delivery service at branches beyond the B Mart Gangnam Nonhyeon location in the second half.
A Woowa Brothers official said, "By changing the exterior material, we were able to consider the environment while also improving overall performance," and added, "In the second half, we will advance Autonomous Driving technology and control capabilities so consumers can encounter Baemin's delivery robot Dilli in more diverse locations."
