Kolmar Korea(161890) said on the 31st that its Chinese production base, Wuxi Kolmar, was recognized by the Ministery of Food and Drug Safety for its excellent cosmetics manufacturing and quality control system. This is the first case among overseas cosmetics plants of domestic manufacturers.
The assessment covered the entire production process from raw material receipt to manufacturing processes and quality control, and shipment of finished goods. The Ministery of Food and Drug Safety inspected Wuxi Kolmar's site using the same criteria as the domestic CGMP evaluation and confirmed the overall excellence of its manufacturing system and quality control operations.
CGMP is a system operated by the Ministery of Food and Drug Safety in line with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for good manufacturing practices for cosmetics. As of Jul., there were 193 domestic facilities certified for CGMP. Of 4,166 domestic cosmetics manufacturers, 184 corporations have certified facilities, accounting for about 4.4% of the total.
Wuxi Kolmar is a Chinese production subsidiary that applies Kolmar Korea Co.'s operating system locally, from research and development to production and quality control. When it was completed in 2018, it drew attention as one of the largest cosmetics original design manufacturing (ODM) plants in China, and it has an annual production capacity of 550 million units.
About 20 resident employees dispatched from Korea work with the local organization at Wuxi Kolmar to operate Kolmar Korea Co.'s manufacturing technology and quality standards. Personnel in charge of research and development and quality control account for about 30% of all employees.
A Kolmar Korea Co. official said, "This recognition of CGMP equivalence for Wuxi Kolmar is the result of Kolmar Korea Co. steadily accumulating manufacturing and quality control know-how after being designated the first domestic CGMP corporations by the Ministery of Food and Drug Safety and expanding it to global production bases," adding, "We will continue to further advance our management system so that by applying a consistent manufacturing and quality control system to all global production hubs, client companies can receive products of the same quality from any production hub."
