Musinsa said on the 15th that it doubled this year's number of beneficiaries of customized orthopedic shoes for people with disabilities to 20 from 10 last year. The program is part of the community co-prosperity project "MUVE," carried out with Seongdong District Office and the Milal Welfare Foundation, a social welfare foundation.

MUVE is Musinsa's flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to guarantee mobility rights for vulnerable groups and people with limited mobility and to close welfare gaps.

Eligible recipients are people with disabilities who have difficulty wearing off-the-shelf shoes due to congenital or acquired foot function impairments or deformities. Orthopedic shoes are handmade based on precise measurements of each person's foot condition.

Musinsa fully funds the program and produces customized shoes in partnership with Haram Gongbang, a specialized orthopedic shoe manufacturer on Handmade Shoe Street in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong District, Seoul, where its headquarters is located.

In the first round recruited on Apr. 4, 10 people with disabilities living in the greater Seoul area were selected as beneficiaries. Precise measurements, including foot shape measurements and gait scans, have been completed for each recipient, and the customized shoes will be delivered sequentially by the end of this month.

Musinsa plans to recruit additional beneficiaries for the second round in the second half of August.

A Musinsa official said, "It is meaningful because we can provide practical freedom of movement to neighbors who have difficulty walking while also supporting local small business owners and the handmade shoe industry ecosystem," adding, "We will continue social contribution activities that pursue co-prosperity with the local community in the second half of the year."
