Coupang said on the 12th that it held the "Coupang Ondongne Care" traveling health checkup project in Haenam-gun, Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City.
The event was held on the 10th at Dalma Hall of Songji Elementary School in Haenam-gun. Haenam-gun, Haenam-gun Public Health Center, Haenam-gun Volunteer Center, Korean Central Medical Volunteer Association, and GP participated to provide health checkups and medical consultations to about 250 people in medically vulnerable groups, including older adults and infants and adolescents.
Haenam-gun is a representative agricultural region with the largest arable land area in the country and is a super-aged area where the proportion of people ages 65 and older reaches about 39.3%, based on the resident registration population status of the Ministry of Data and Statistics (MODS). In particular, Songji-myeon is located in Ttangkkeut Village, making access to medical institutions difficult.
About 50 people, including specialized medical staff and university students majoring in medical fields, took part in the event. Starting with registration and nursing pre-examination, basic health conditions such as blood pressure were checked, and customized health checkups were conducted according to each person's health status, including internal medicine, Korean medicine, and dental treatment, blood tests, bone density tests, and dementia and depression screening.
The "mobile dental bus" operated by Haenam-gun also participated, providing a variety of treatments to improve residents' oral health, including oral examinations and consultations, scaling, and denture sterilization and cleaning.
Songji Elementary School, which provided the venue, also ran tailored programs for students. For infants and adolescents, growth and development tests using AI-based growth prediction technology were conducted to provide individual growth reports, and emergency response training, including CPR, was provided.
Coupang noted that it is focusing on follow-up management so that those with warning signs detected do not end up with a one-off event but can receive subsequent treatment. Through phone consultations, it guides visits to medical institutions and manages cases by checking whether patients actually came in.
At the Jangsu-gun and Danyang-gun events held in the first half of this year, about 900 people received health checkups, and a total of 164 people with abnormal findings were connected to local medical institutions. Of these, 91 have started actual treatment.
Meanwhile, the event was attended by Democratic Party lawmaker Park Gee-won (Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City), Haenam-gun Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan, Haenam-gun Council Chair Min Gyeong-mae, Songji Elementary School Principal Kim Yeong-ok, Haenam-gun Public Health Center Director Im Myeong-ran, and Haenam-gun Volunteer Center Director Hwang In-gyeong, among other local officials.
A Coupang official said, "Ondongne Care is a prevention-focused health management program designed to help residents in areas with low medical accessibility receive the services they need close to home," adding, "We will continue to expand support in cooperation with local communities, including local governments and public health centers, to improve the health of residents in medically underserved areas and close gaps in care."
