CU, a convenience store operated by BGF Retail, said on the 9th that it surpassed 600 stores in Mongolia eight years after entering the market.
CU signed a master franchise agreement with Premium Nexus Group in 2018 and became the first in Korea's convenience store industry to enter the Mongolian market. It is the first time in Korea's retail industry to open 600 stores in a single country.
The 600th store, "Khotak Undur Som," opened in Bulgan aimag, about 600 kilometers west of the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar. Located on the expressway toward Lake Khovsgol, it targets tourists and long-haul drivers as its main customer base.
The store is about 85 pyeong in size and is an eco-friendly outlet that introduced solar power facilities for the first time among Mongolian convenience stores. Considering its location, it also features shower facilities and a space for linked sales of local food.
CU has steadily strengthened its tailored local operating strategy and business competitiveness. It introduced the digital picking system and global IT system used in Korea to its Mongolian logistics center, and expanded sales of its own-brand "get Coffee" and K-food. It commercialized Mongolian steamed buns boz and fried dumplings khuushuur as ready-to-eat items, and operates about 50 K-beauty specialty stores.
With the opening of the 600th store, CU plans to strengthen its food competitiveness while expanding eco-friendly infrastructure and community co-prosperity efforts to continue targeting the Mongolian market.
Starting with Mongolia in 2018, CU entered Malaysia (2021), Kazakhstan (2024), and Hawaii in the United States (2025). In April this year, it became the first in the industry to surpass 800 global stores. By region, it has 184 stores in Malaysia, 65 in Kazakhstan, and 3 in Hawaii.
