Shinsegae Food said on the 19th that sales of its samgyetang ready meals from March to May this year rose 38% from a year earlier. In particular, May sales, when the full-fledged heat began, increased 55% from a year earlier. It appears to have been affected by high inflation and the early heat.
Shinsegae Food's flagship product Olbaan Nutritious Samgyetang uses domestically raised sulfur-fed chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, and garlic to deliver a deep, clean broth. Olbaan Samgyetang Jeong is characterized by a light taste using domestic chicken, ginseng, and glutinous rice. Olbaro-go Bandeut-han Faro Samgyetang is a new product that incorporates the ancient grain farro (Farro). By using farro, a super grain rich in dietary fiber and protein, it reflects the "healthy pleasure" (enjoyable health management) trend.
In particular, the increase in sales of samgyetang ready meals appears to be due to rising dining-out prices. Demand seems to be growing for enjoying nourishing dishes at home at reasonable prices instead of eating out. According to Price of True by the Korea Consumer Agency (KCA), the average price of one serving of samgyetang in Seoul this year was 18,150 won, up 3.7% from the same month last year (17,500 won).
A Shinsegae Food official said, "More consumers are choosing to enjoy nourishing meals conveniently at home due to the burden of dining-out prices," and noted, "We plan to continue introducing a variety of nourishing ready meals using healthy ingredients so consumers can enjoy a hearty meal at reasonable prices."
Meanwhile, domestic food companies have moved to target demand for enjoying nourishing meals conveniently at home. OTOKI launched a new product, "Neungi Samgyetang," and Daesang rolled out a new product, "Namdo-style chueotang."
