Coupang said on the 14th that it will take part in the "2026 Korea summer lodging sale festa," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, through the 31st of next month.
The event is a public-private partnership project prepared to ease people's vacation costs through the Tourism Promotion and Development Fund and to encourage tourism in regions outside the capital area. To boost domestic travel in summer and invigorate local economies struggling with population decline, it was arranged with a supplementary budget of 11.2 billion won.
The eligible areas are a total of 85 local governments in non-capital regions nationwide, excluding Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi: 12 in Gangwon, 6 in North Chungcheong, 9 in South Chungcheong, 10 in North Jeolla, 16 in South Jeolla, 15 in North Gyeongsang, 11 in South Gyeongsang, 3 in Busan and 3 in Daegu.
Coupang said it will join the government's push to boost domestic travel by offering more than 6,200 lodging products, including hotels, resorts and pensions, in the eligible local governments.
During the event period, discount coupons will be issued daily from 10 a.m. to 7 a.m. the next day through government support. A 30,000 won discount coupon applies to lodging products priced at 70,000 won or more, and a 20,000 won discount coupon applies to products under 70,000 won (20,000 won or more).
Discount benefits are also prepared for guests staying multiple nights. For stays of two nights or more, if the total lodging payment is 140,000 won or more or under 140,000 won (50,000 won or more), customers can receive discounts of 70,000 won and 50,000 won, respectively.
Wow members can receive up to an additional 52% off on select products, and stacking discounts of up to 70,000 won are supported through downloadable coupons.
A Coupang official said, "We hope many people will discover attractive accommodations in regions outside the capital area so that it becomes an opportunity to revitalize local tourism and economies."
