Kakdang Welfare Foundation said on the 12th that, together with the Korea Council of Volunteering (KOV), and the Seoul Future Hangang Headquarters, it will host the citizen-participation sharing event "Volunteeum Hangang" on June 13-14 at the Nogeumsu Plaza in Yeouido Hangang Park.
The event, under the slogan "a culture-sharing village where staying becomes meeting and meeting becomes communication," aims to encourage and spread everyday participation in volunteering among citizens in the public space of the Han River. The event name Volunteeum is a portmanteau of the Latin Volo, meaning will, and UM, meaning place, and signifies a new model of volunteering in which people gather in nature to make up for each other's shortcomings and recover together.
The venue will feature shelters and free-stay spaces where any citizen can rest comfortably, and people can experience sharing activities through communication and mind-care programs, lectures, and hands-on programs.
Programs will include "Ask me anything," where participants ask questions and converse with mentors from various fields; "Finding my feelings," to reflect on and express emotions; a warmth mailbox that delivers hearts through letters; and on-site participation Happy Tarot, while outdoor experience zones such as Helinox Playground, Snow Peak Field Garden, and Folkraft experiences will be operated. Cultural performances including community dance, gugak, and choir will also be held.
Kakdang Welfare Foundation is a private volunteer education institution established in 1986, and has produced more than 5,000 volunteer experts to date.
Ra Je-gun, chair of Kakdang Welfare Foundation (chair of Donga Aluminum), said, "This project is the starting point of efforts to install a large shelter in Yeouido Hangang Park and for volunteers to make the Han River a space for culture and communication."
