At OURHOME's Yongin plant, a partner company worker was taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest after a crushing incident on the 8th. At OURHOME's Yongin plant, a worker also died in April last year in a similar incident.
At about 2:50 p.m. on the 8th, at the fourth-floor fish cake skewer packaging line of OURHOME's Yongin Plant 2 in Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi, a partner company worker in his 50s, identified as A, suffered an accident in which the worker's neck was caught in a conveyor belt.
A was rescued in cardiac arrest, received emergency treatment, and was transported at about 3:25 p.m. to Osan Hankook Hospital, about 9.5 kilometers away. Hospital treatment is underway.
Police investigating the circumstances believe the accident occurred when the sanitary cap A was wearing became entangled in the conveyor belt machinery, and they are securing closed-circuit (CC) TV footage and questioning witnesses.
Police are checking whether the company took all possible measures to prevent accidents and plan to book the person in charge on charges of occupational negligence causing injury if negligence is found. The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) is also investigating possible violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
At the plant where the accident occurred, a worker in their 30s, identified as B, had their neck caught in a cooling machine and was transported in cardiac arrest in April last year, but died five days later. In March the same year, a partner company worker in their 30s suffered an accident in which their arm and hand were caught.
Kim Tae-won, CEO of OURHOME, said in an apology, "Regardless of the reason, we deeply apologize for an incident that should never occur in the workplace," adding, "We especially bow our heads in apology to the employee who was seriously injured and the family."
Kim added, "We will do our utmost for the employee's treatment and recovery and provide all necessary support," and said, "The production line where the accident occurred has been halted and the cause is under investigation."
OURHOME said it will fully cooperate with all procedures to determine the cause and will conduct an emergency safety inspection across all business sites to devise measures to prevent a recurrence.
