GN Food, the operator of Goobne Chicken, said on the 1st it will adjust the weights for its boneless thigh, wing drumettes, and whole-leg menu items. With raw material prices rising and the supply strain for chicken persisting, the company decided not to raise prices while keeping taste and quality.
According to GN Food, the pre-cooking weight for the boneless thigh menu will be reduced to 700g from 800g. Goobne Chicken has used only 100% domestically produced chicken thighs. The company said it adjusted operating standards for some menu items to maintain existing quality standards without mixing in imported raw materials or other cuts.
In fact, in Korea's chicken market, where consumer preference is high for chicken thighs, supply instability has repeated every year. The impact of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) outbreak last winter led to the culling of more than 300,000 breeder chickens for broilers (parent stock for broiler production), increasing the overall supply burden on the production base. Although the number of broilers supplied to the market has not decreased immediately, it is expected to act as a factor for supply instability going forward.
Goobne Chicken said on its website, "Instead of raising prices or changing raw materials, we chose a realistic option to uphold our taste and quality standards," and added, "We will do our best to repay you with reliable raw materials, the same taste, and stable quality."
