Dongsuh Foods said on the 27th that it is continuing culture- and arts-centered social contribution activities, from supporting children's reading to sponsoring the fields of baduk and music.
According to the related industry, Dongsuh Foods operates the children's reading environment improvement program "Dongsuh Foods Dream Library." Starting with Sangsan Elementary School in Jincheon, North Chungcheong, in 2017, it has selected local elementary schools to donate books and carry out activities to improve reading environments. In April, at Gwangju Bongju Elementary School, selected as the supported school for the "10th Dream Library," it donated about 3,000 new books and replaced outdated books.
Dongsuh Foods has also sponsored for 27 years the baduk tournament "Maxim Coffee Highest Ascetics," which only 9-dan professional players can enter, to help develop Korea's baduk culture. The 27th tournament held this year began its first match in January and ran for about four months. The winner was Byeon Sang-il, 9-dan, who clinched his first title on his eighth attempt since his debut appearance.
In addition, Dongsuh Foods runs the free classical concert series "Dongsuh Coffee Classic" in the music field. Launched in 2008, Dongsuh Coffee Classic presents free classical performances in major cities including Seoul, Busan, and Daegu. Earlier, at the 15th Dongsuh Coffee Classic held at the Daegu Concert House Grand Hall in Nov. last year, the Daegu Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Baek Jin-hyeon, violinist Danny Koo, soprano Lee Hae-won, countertenor Choi Sung-hoon, and tenor John Noh performed, drawing an audience of about 1,300.
Separately, through the youth orchestra support program "Maxim Fragrance of Love," Dongsuh Foods provides instruments and educational equipment to elementary school orchestras nationwide. Last year, it delivered instruments and equipment worth about 40 million won to the Daegu Seobu Elementary School orchestra. In particular, at the instrument delivery ceremony held the same year, violinist Danny Koo and members of the Daegu Symphony Orchestra took part and offered performance coaching.
A Dongsuh Foods official said, "We will continue various social contribution activities to contribute to the development of domestic culture and the arts and to give back to society the love we have received from consumers."
