E-MART said on the 5th that it has been selling "Gugutak makgeolli (750mL)" in a limited run of 100,000 bottles at stores nationwide since on the 29th.
Gugutak makgeolli is a product that carries the meaning of "990-won Korean rice wine." The price is 990 won, about half the average price of makgeolli on the market. According to the Korea Consumer Agency (KCA) Chamgagyeok, as of Apr. 2026, the average price of a 750mL bottle of makgeolli is about 1,933 won.
The product was made in collaboration with Daejeon Brewery, a makgeolli maker in Daejeon, and uses 100% domestically grown rice. E-MART said it worked with the manufacturer starting about six months before launch and improved quality through multiple prototype tests.
E-MART liquor buyer Jeong Chan-u said, "Through close collaboration with the manufacturer, we were able to introduce a makgeolli product that satisfies both price and quality," and added, "We hope this gives customers a chance to enjoy delicious makgeolli at an affordable price."
