You can now buy a Humanoid Robot at the convenience store in front of your house.
GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, said on the 29th it will roll out about 130 special items for Family Month in May, including robots, pure gold and premium Korean beef, known as hanwoo.
The most eye-catching item is the Humanoid Robot. GS25 said it is the first time the convenience store industry has offered robot products, reflecting growing interest in robots and artificial intelligence (AI).
GS25 prepared a total of 11 robot products, including ▲ AI social robot "Riku" ▲ Humanoid Robot (G1) ▲ quadruped walking robot (Air) ▲ robot keyrings.
Riku is an AI social robot developed with domestic technology. It features conversation and emotional expression functions and is used in everyday settings such as children's education and elder care.
The ultra-small robot keyring is a so-called companion robot concept product that can be attached to a bag for portability and offers simple interaction functions. Priced in the 100,000-won range, it targets Children's Day gift demand.
Beyond robots, it will also offer pure gold and premium Korean beef, known as hanwoo. Ahead of Parents Day, it will release six pure gold items (1 g–37.5 g), including the "Carnation Gold Bar," and four pure silver items such as the "Silver Bar 1000 g."
With demand growing for gifts that can replace cash, last year's sales of pure gold products more than doubled from the year before.
Alongside premium Korean beef, known as hanwoo, graded 1++ and other livestock items, it will also roll out seafood, fruit and kimchi as special offerings. Representative items include "1++ hanwoo sirloin pack 900 g" (129,800 won), "female live blue crab 1 kg" (34,900 won), and "pre-washed apples 2.7 kg" (29,800 won).
