Japanese sake brewery Raifuku Shuzo's premium sake "Junmai Daiginjo Aiyama Princess Michiko" was selected for the top honor "Best of 2026" at the 2026 Korea Wine & Spirits Awards.
Founded in 1716 in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, Raifuku Shuzo is a traditional sake brewery with a history of more than 300 years. Under the name "Raifuku," which means "good fortune comes," it has presented a variety of premium sakes. It is especially known for its original brewing technique using flower yeast.
The award-winning "Junmai Daiginjo Aiyama Princess Michiko" is the flagship product made with Aiyama, a rare sake-brewing rice variety. Because it is difficult to cultivate, Aiyama is called a "phantom brewing rice," a rare variety. Raifuku Shuzo polished the Aiyama down to 40% to achieve a highly pure style.
To this, it added the flower yeast "Princess Michiko," extracted from roses. The rose yeast's signature glamorous, bright fruit and floral aromas stand out, while the rich yet delicate sweetness of the Aiyama rice, its crisp acidity, and a razor-sharp finish come together in balance.
For serving, it is recommended to drink it well chilled. Thanks to its elegant balance of sweetness and acidity, it also works as an aperitif and pairs well with fine cheeses or wagashi, traditional Japanese confections.
Raifuku Shuzo said, "Taking this award as momentum, we will continue to pursue outstanding quality and strive to present sake loved across borders and generations."
