Yangjugol Iga Traditional Liquor said on the 28th that its premium yakju, "Igaju," won the grand prize in the traditional liquor yakju and cheongju category at the 2026 Korea Wine & Spirits Awards.
Igaju is a grain liquor brewed using the traditional second-stage fermentation method, a premium yakju known for its dry flavor and smooth finish. It is produced by fermenting and aging in traditional earthenware jars and then drawing off the clear liquor, enhancing completeness with deep flavor and a clean texture. Yangjugol Iga Traditional Liquor noted that it is characterized by rich taste and aroma, to the point that it is called "Seoktanju ("惜吞酒")," meaning "so good it's almost a shame to swallow."
Yangjugol Iga Traditional Liquor is presenting a variety of Korean rice wine and yakju product lines based on a brewing philosophy that adheres to traditional methods. It has built a traditional liquor lineup including Ihwaju brewed when pear blossoms bloom, the Jujumchi series, and Igajutak. In particular, Ihwaju won the Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs award and has established itself as a representative traditional liquor.
The brewery is a local specialty liquor producer in Yangju and is carrying out various activities, including operating experience programs and expanding overseas exports while inheriting tradition. It said it is also focusing on the globalization of Korea's liquor through a premium strategy based on traditional brewing techniques.
A Yangjugol Iga Traditional Liquor official said, "This grand prize recognizes our efforts to preserve traditional methods and our quality," adding, "We will continue to elevate the value of Korean traditional liquor and introduce products that are competitive in the global market."
