Starbucks Korea said on the 24th it will expand the launch of the "ube Basque cheesecake," which uses "ube," drawing attention as a global trend, to stores nationwide.
The "ube Basque cheesecake" was sold in limited quantities at 100 Starbucks stores in Korea on Apr. 14. Starbucks said the decision to expand to all stores followed positive customer feedback and reflected the trend that values experiential consumption.
Ube is a purple yam ingredient popular in Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines, characterized by a subtle sweetness and violet color. It has recently become a global trend and is being used in a variety of food and beverage products.
A Starbucks official said, "The 'ube Basque cheesecake,' which reflects global dessert trends, received a positive response from customers after its launch, leading to its expansion to all stores," adding, "We will continue to focus on food development to offer a differentiated food experience unique to Starbucks by using various ingredients."
