Premium distilled spirit Neo40 Black said on the 21st that it won the grand prize in the premium soju institutional sector at the Korea Wine & Spirits Awards 2026. The Korea Wine & Spirits Awards is a ceremony that comprehensively evaluates product completeness and quality, as well as manufacturing philosophy, across Korea's alcoholic beverage industry.
Neo40 Black is a premium distilled spirit completed through a collaboration between manufacturer Sihyangga, which is based on traditional distillation techniques, and Woorisul Company, which handled traditional liquor planning and branding.
Sihyangga, which oversaw production, centered on a distilled base made from Garumi and achieved a deep aroma and stable texture through aging and blending. Despite being a high-proof spirit, the company has focused on reducing the harsh alcohol sensation and leaving a smooth finish.
Woorisul Company, which handled planning, defined Neo40 Black not as a simple high-proof soju but as a premium distilled spirit completed alongside food, and designed the overall product concept, positioning, and distribution strategy.
In particular, Neo40 Black set its gustatory direction from the planning stage through a collaboration with chef Choi Kang-rok. Rather than a stimulating taste, the goal was a drink that does not disrupt the flow of a meal while still leaving a clear presence.
The judging panel said, "Despite being a high-proof spirit, the texture is not rough, and the depth and balance from aging and blending are impressive," explaining the reason for selecting it for the grand prize in the premium soju institutional sector.
A Woorisul Company official said, "This grand prize reflects both the technical prowess of manufacturer Sihyangga and the completion-focused strategy consistently pursued from the planning stage," adding, "We will continue to expand the possibilities of Garumi distilled spirits and present a direction in which traditional liquor can be naturally consumed within modern food culture."
