Lotte Wellfood said on the 14th it carried out a springtime "chew gum" safety campaign to prevent drowsiness-related accidents around Busan Port for the third straight year.
Lotte Wellfood ran the "Wake up from drowsiness, snap awake!" safety campaign on the 13th around Busan Port in partnership with the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, the Busan Port Authority (BPA), and 12 terminal operators.
The campaign was planned to prevent safety accidents inside the port and to raise workers' safety awareness. Noting that a significant share of port accidents stem from a lack of safety awareness such as carelessness during work and drowsiness, it was set up as a practical activity to prevent them. By linking it with "National Safety Day (Apr. 16)," Lotte Wellfood said it further strengthened its public nature and social consensus.
The campaign took place on the morning of the 13th in the area of the Busan Sinseondae Gamman Terminal. With officials from Lotte Wellfood, the Busan Port Authority, and others in attendance, safety rules were provided to port workers and transport personnel using various promotional materials such as "Joleum Beonjjeok Gum," banners, and guides, delivering messages to prevent drowsy driving and on-the-job accidents.
Going forward, it plans to continue distributing promotional materials and supporting campaign operations for the 12 terminal operators within Busan Port. Through this, it aims to spread the safety campaign across the port and enhance tangible accident-prevention effects.
The campaign was first held in Apr. 2024 and has continued for three consecutive years. In addition to the anti-drowsy driving campaign, Lotte Wellfood and the Busan Port Authority have continued various collaborations, including confectionery donations for community sharing.
Lotte Wellfood's "Joleum Beonjjeok Gum" is a representative functional gum used in situations where preventing drowsiness is needed, such as for drivers and night-shift workers.
A Lotte Wellfood official said, "We will continue to expand safety campaigns through cooperation with relevant agencies," adding, "We plan to carry out effective social contribution activities in various field settings."
