Coupang said on the 12th that, as it expands investment in logistics infrastructure outside the capital, the number of employees in their 20s and 30s at logistics centers in non-Seoul regions, including provincial areas, has surpassed 17,000.
That is an increase of about 2,000 from 15,000 as of September 2024. The employee count excludes day laborers and includes on-site staff, engineers and office workers.
Coupang said youth jobs have increased in the provinces thanks to expanded hiring policies for local young people as it ramped up investment in regional logistics centers.
Coupang has been expanding logistics centers across regions by making an additional 3 trillion won investment in logistics infrastructure from 2024 through this year.
Coupang also plans to continue increasing youth jobs this year. Coupang said it has forged industry-academia partnerships with 15 provincial universities and is increasing internships and full-time hiring.
A Coupang official said, "We will continue to increase quality jobs so that provincial young people can keep settling in their communities, achieve their dreams and, through this, create a virtuous cycle that revitalizes the regional economy."
