Convenience store CU, run by BGF Retail, said on the 12th it will get a head start on summer beauty and fashion demand by exclusively launching sun care products from well-known beauty brands and introducing functional cooling wear early.
Starting this month, CU will sequentially roll out sun care and deodorant products. First, it will introduce "TONYMOLY cooling sun cream" and "AHC airy sun stick." From the end of this month, CU will exclusively add three SNP sun care items — "aqua sun cream," "mild sun milk," and "air fit sun stick."
It will also introduce two deodorant and body spray products, strengthening its lineup of summer hygiene items.
Timed with the launch of its sun care and deodorant products, CU will run a discount event of up to 50% on all items from April through September.
Meanwhile, to strengthen competitiveness in fashion goods, CU plans to newly introduce a "clothing specialty store." CU said this reflects the trend of convenience stores expanding as easy shopping channels, which has boosted demand for clothing products.
Operated under the "Style Picks!" concept, the clothing specialty store will start by selling 16 items, including short-sleeve T-shirts and socks, in collaboration with the lifestyle sports brand "FCMM," favored by Millennials and Gen Z, and will expand to various products.
A BGF Retail official said, "As the heat ramps up quickly, demand is expected to rise for products preparing for summer, such as UV protection, body odor care, and cooling apparel," adding, "CU will proactively introduce a differentiated lineup of summer-season products, ranging from sun care items to functional apparel."
