Baedari Suldoga said on the 9th that its flagship product, "Goyang Makgeolli 10%," won the grand prize in the Korea Wine & Spirits Awards Korean rice wine institutional sector.
The Korea Wine & Spirits Awards is Korea's leading liquor competition, now in its 13th year. ChosunBiz has hosted it annually since 2014 with the goal of "discovering and widely promoting good domestic liquor and supporting the formation of a sound drinking culture."
This year's event drew 260 companies, which submitted a total of 1,118 brands. It is the largest among domestic competitions that cover comprehensive liquor. Of these, 449 brands won the grand prize.
Goyang Makgeolli 10% is a premium Korean rice wine brewed using only newly harvested rice produced in the region. It is made using the traditional "samyangju (三釀酒)" method, in which mash is added three times, and is completed after about 30 days of fermentation and aging. It is a 100% additive-free product with no sweeteners or additives used at all, featuring the inherent flavor of rice instead of an artificial sweetness. With a hefty body, grain aromas and acidity are balanced to deliver a structured taste.
Baedari Suldoga enhanced quality stability through yeast control technology during fermentation. By applying an ultra-low temperature aging process, it suppressed carbon dioxide generated during fermentation and minimized residual fermentation even after bottling. As a result, despite being a live makgeolli with active yeast, changes over time in sweetness, acidity, and carbonation are limited, the company said. When refrigerated at 5°C or below, quality can be maintained for up to 90 days.
Baedari Suldoga representatives Park Sang-bin (5th generation), Park Jae-hyung and Park Geon-hyung (6th generation) said, "Goyang Makgeolli 10% is a product completed by combining traditional brewing methods with modern fermentation technology," adding, "We will continue to maintain strict brewing standards and focus on enhancing the value of premium Korean rice wine."
