Wine & Care Associates, a corporations specializing in imported alcohol, said on the 7th that the premium tequila "Hacienda de Tepa Reposado Black" won the grand prize in the spirits tequila gold institutional sector. It is the second straight year after "Hacienda de Tepa Blanco" was selected for the grand prize last year.
Marking its 13th year, the Korea Wine & Spirits Awards is Korea's representative liquor competition. With the goal of "discovering good domestic alcohol, widely promoting it, and supporting the formation of a healthy drinking culture," ChosunBiz has hosted it annually since 2014.
This year's event drew 260 companies, which submitted a total of 1,118 brands. It is the largest among domestic competitions that cover general alcoholic beverages. Of these, 449 brands won the grand prize.
Hacienda de Tepa is a premium tequila brand produced in the Jalisco region of Mexico. The "Reposado Black," which won the grand prize this time, is a tequila made from 100% blue agave, applying a differentiated aging method to the traditional reposado process. In particular, adding charred wood inside the oak barrel gives it a dark brown hue.
A Wine & Care Associates official said, "It is very meaningful that we won for the second consecutive year with 'Reposado Black,' which already receives high marks in Mexico, following 'Blanco' last year," and added, "We plan to continue promoting differentiated premium tequila and expanding the market."
