Yeongcheon Wine Johun Winery said on the 6th that its flagship product Johun Red won the grand prize in the traditional liquor Korean wine institutional sector at the 13th Korea Wine & Spirits Awards 2026. The product has won for three consecutive years.
The Korea Wine & Spirits Awards is Korea's leading liquor evaluation event, now in its 13th year. With the goal of "discovering and widely promoting good domestic liquor and supporting the formation of a sound drinking culture," ChosunBiz has held it annually since 2014.
This year's event drew 260 companies, which submitted a total of 1,118 brands. It is the largest among domestic evaluation events that cover comprehensive liquor. Of these, 449 brands won the grand prize.
Johun Red from Yeongcheon Wine Johun Winery uses wild grapes grown directly as raw material on the slopes of Bohyeonsan in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang, certified under GAP (Good Agricultural Practices). The grapes are harvested late after frost, fermented at low temperature, and aged for more than one year in new American oak barrels.
Johun Red is a style that harmonizes aroma and oak notes and has been sold as the region's representative red wine since 2009. Using late-harvest grapes, it is also noted for retaining a certain level of residual sugar.
