Seoul Jangsu said on the 3rd that it will sell "makgeolli cider" (hereafter makssa), an unconventional alcoholic beverage that combines makgeolli and cider, exclusively and in limited quantities at GS25 convenience stores.
The makssa being introduced this time was a popular product, with about 870,000 bottles sold since its first launch in Nov. 2021. Buoyed by the positive response from consumers at the time, it is being brought back.
Makssa is a product that implements the so-called "makgeolli cider" recipe, which is popular among people in their 20s and 30s who combine products to suit their own individuality and preferences, in a finished ready-to-drink (RTD) form. There is no need to mix makgeolli and cider separately; it can be enjoyed as is, and it is ready to drink, reflecting the demands of consumers who seek convenience.
In particular, this product was created through Seoul Jangsu's own recipe research. Through a total of four steeping and fermentation processes, a process of adding cider aroma, and carbonation injection, it found the optimal taste preferred by the public. The alcohol content is 5%. Seoul Jangsu said even people who are sensitive to alcohol can enjoy it without burden during outdoor activities such as spring outings or camping.
They will also hold a sales commemorative event with GS25. Until the 30th, customers who purchase makssa in stores with an ice cup will receive a discount. This reflects a "mixology" concept of pouring alcohol into a convenience store ice cup to enjoy it like an instant cocktail, so that people can easily drink "eol-makssa" (ice + makgeolli + cider), which maximizes the refreshing taste of makgeolli with ice.
A Seoul Jangsu official said, "For this product, we prepared it so anyone can enjoy it deliciously by combining the smoothness of makgeolli and the refreshment of cider in an optimal ratio."
Meanwhile, makssa is scheduled to be sold at GS25 stores nationwide starting in the second week of April. Sales will end once the prepared stock is sold out.
