According to the industry on the 27th, Sealy Korea, the Korean unit of Sealy Mattress, is currently building a new mattress plant in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province. The plant is slated for completion in the second half of this year and is set to operate as an integrated production base covering the entire process from raw material storage to manufacturing and shipping.

The investment is part of Sealy's parent company Somno Group International (SGI) and its Asia-Pacific headquarters' strategy to strengthen production infrastructure in Korea. Sealy Korea will execute the plan.

The company will also push to build a spring factory on land near the new mattress plant. With construction targeted to start in the first half of 2027 and finish in 2028, the plan is to establish a system to produce key mattress components domestically.

Sealy Korea is already expanding its role as a production base by exporting part of its output. It is also increasing the use of its Asian supply chain by supplying domestically produced products to its branches in China and Kazakhstan.

Chief Executive Yoon Jong-hyo of Sealy Korea said, "The Korean market is a strategic base where consumer expectations for premium mattresses are high," and added, "Through investments in the new mattress plant and the spring factory, we will strengthen our domestic manufacturing competitiveness while continuing to provide products and services that meet global standards."

Sealy Mattress is a global mattress brand with a 145-year history and ranks No. 1 in the U.S. market. Parent company Somno Group International has been pushing to transform into a sleep-focused group encompassing manufacturing and distribution since acquiring the largest U.S. mattress specialty retailer "Mattress Firm" in Feb. last year.
