With the food hall "Shinsegae Market" at Shinsegae Department Store's Gangnam branch marking the first anniversary of its renewal opening, sales appear to have risen by more than 30%.
Shinsegae Market is a supermarket that built the Gangnam branch food hall into the largest among department stores in Seoul at about 600 pyeong (about 1,980 square meters). It combines fresh food, a premium home-meal specialty section, and a grocery store, and provides personalized services such as preparing ingredients and custom rice polishing.
Shinsegae Department Store said that, along with sales growth after the Shinsegae Market renewal, its ability to draw customers also increased. New customers accounted for about 30% of inflow over the past year. Customers from outside Seoul made up more than 40%.
To mark the first anniversary of Shinsegae Market, Shinsegae Department Store prepared various events through the 26th of this month, including 100 customer appreciation items, special prices on spring seasonal ingredients, and pop-up stores from popular brands by category.
Special-price promotions will run across fresh food, grocery, health food, and liquor. Representative items include Geumsil strawberries, oranges, animal welfare eggs, Dalsu sweet potatoes, Shinsegae Angus premium Korean beef, known as hanwoo sirloin, and Prime Pork samgyeopsal. Seasonal spring seafood and mountain vegetables, as well as ingredients shipped directly from producing regions, will also be featured.
