Lotte Chilsung Beverage said on the 13th it released a 500ml Chilsung Cider PET bottle made with 100% recycled plastic resin.
According to Lotte Chilsung Beverage, the product was planned to proactively respond to the enforcement of the Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources. From this year, bottled water and nonalcoholic beverage manufacturers that use more than 5,000 tons of PET bottles annually are required to use at least 10% recycled plastic resin when manufacturing PET bottles.
Lotte Chilsung Beverage used 100% recycled plastic resin for the 500ml Chilsung Cider PET bottle. According to Lotte Chilsung, using 100% recycled plastic resin is a first in Korea. The company expects to reduce about 2,200 tons of plastic and about 2,900 tons of carbon emissions annually. The strategy is to reduce the environmental impact of landfilling and incinerating waste plastic, contribute to carbon neutrality and climate change responses, and advance ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management.
The newly launched 500ml Chilsung Cider PET product also has partial changes to its label and container design. To indicate 100% recycled resin use on the label, it reads "100% RECYCLED BOTTLE (corporations mark)." Moving from the previous rounded base of the PET bottle, the company applied a bold, angular design with embossed patterns to add sophistication and improve grip.
An ad produced to mark Lotte Chilsung Beverage's adoption of recycled MR-PET (Mechanical Recycled PET) also drew attention. Built on the concept "the first changes everyone," the ad was made in migratory bird and penguin versions. Within about a month of posting on YouTube and Instagram channels, it surpassed a cumulative 50 million views.
Lotte Chilsung Beverage is diversifying its lineup to match changing trends while preserving Chilsung Cider's unique identity. In particular, the "Chilsung Cider Zero" product, launched with healthy pleasure in mind, maintains the original product's taste and aroma while allowing enjoyment without calorie concerns, and it continues to gain steady popularity. In Nov., the company released "Chilsung Cider Zero Lime (ZERO LIME)," a zero-calorie carbonated drink with natural lime flavor.
A Lotte Chilsung Beverage official said, "As the 500ml Chilsung Cider PET bottle made with 100% recycled resin is the first in Korea, we hope this first attempt becomes a model case that changes everyone," adding, "Chilsung Cider will continue to do its best to remain a flagship carbonated beverage brand loved by people of all ages and consistently chosen by customers."
